HOW TO USE A LOUPE MAGNIFIER

The world-renowned BelOMO Loupe - HERE or HERE

WHERE TO USE THE LOUPE - LIGHTING AND LOCATION
Find a good place in your home or office with plenty of light. The best light is color corrected to match natural sunlight. But people often find that a desk lamp is good enough for home use.

OPEN THE LOUPE
Unfold or slide the loupe open from its case until it is fully unfolded. Pick up the loupe in your right hand (left if left-handed)while placing one of your fingers through the case opening as a brace. This will make it easier to steadily hold the loupe and slightly move it to achieve focus.

HOLD AND FOCUS THE LOUPE
Hold the loupe up close to your eye - about an inch or so away. Steady your loupe hand against your cheek.
Start by holding your loupe about an inch or so from your eye and then holding the object that you are viewing about an inch or so from the loupe.  Then, as needed, get optimum focus by moving the object either closer or farther from the loupe.
To obtain and maintain the optimum focus, you can keep your hands steady by bracing or leaning them against each other.
Practice using your loupe on a few small objects to get a better feel for the distance the loupe must be from your eye and from the object being magnified.

It will not take long to figure out the best way to hold it. After that you'll be hooked. You'll be looking at every coin or stamp or photo or rock or piece of jewelry or gold or silver that you can find!

BELOMO 10x TRIPLET LOUPE MAGNIFIER

-- REVIEW --

LENS SPECIFICATIONS:
10x - 10 power magnification
21 mm - lens diameter
17mm - viewing area diameter

DESCRIPTION - COMMENTS:  Case is marked "BelOMO" and "Made in Belarus".The highest quality triplet lens is composed of three joined elements.  Lens is protected by a good-looking, very sturdy self-closing, matte-black, non-glaring metal protective case that you rotate into itself when the lens is not in use. The protective case is constructed with metal parts secured by small flathead screws.  I have tested and I have used dozens of these Belomo 10x triplet loupe magnifiers. The very high Belomo quality seems to be very consistent no matter how many I test....

PRICE:  Low - About $35 to $40
QUALITY:  Excellent
CONCLUSION:  Best overall value in a loupe.

A BelOMO CUSTOM LANYARD FOR YOUR BelOMO LOUPE

How to attach your BelOMO CUSTOM LANYARD to your BelOMO LOUPE

The end of the lanyard hooks or loops around the black post on the end of the BelOMO loupe case.

Just use a screwdriver to loosen a screw on that end of the case and then rotate the case cover to access the post.

If, upon retightening the screw, you find that the screw will not sufficiently tighten, then just use a bit of something like threadlocker on the threads.

Please use the threadlocker that allows you to remove or turn the screws again in the future (instead of the threadlocker that really locks the screws and makes the screws immovable in the future). PERMATEX is the brand of threadlocker that always works really well for me. Choose the MEDIUM strength because it allows screws to be removed again in the future. This PERMATEX Threadlocker MEDIUM STRENGTH is a blue liquid that comes in a blue plastic bottle.

Also, sometimes lanyard buyers think the lanyard is sewn wrong because it does not lie flat on a table.

But the lanyard should not lie flat on a table.  Why?  Because, remember, the lanyard is designed to be worn around the neck.  Read on for explanation....

With the loupe attached to the lanyard, place the lanyard around your neck with the black fabric side out.

When in place around your neck, the lanyard will hang downward flat on your chest, and the BelOMO loupe will hang so that the word "BelOMO" (that is on the loupe) will also face outwards. (If the words on the loupe are facing your body, the loupe is hanging backwards, so, in that case, use the snap on the lanyard to reverse the loupe.)

Note: If the lanyard were sewn to lie flat on the table, then the lanyard would not lie flat on the chest--because of the fact that the lanyard must go around the neck. For example, just drape a flat belt around your neck to get an idea of how the lanyard and the attached loupe would hang if the lanyard were sewn to lie flat on a table. Such a lanyard would not lie flat on your chest.

A SECOND REVIEW:
The Bausch and Lomb 10x Hastings Triplet is a great little hand lens for anything that requires 10X magnification for viewing.

I use this hand lens mainly for looking at hand samples in the field and the lab/classroom.

Compared to the old $5 hand lens that I had previously, the Bausch and Lomb has a much clearer field of view and does not hurt my eyes.  The old lens would focus in the center of the lens, yet remain blurry around the edges.  On the other hand, the B and L has a very clear view across the whole lens that will not strain your eyes.

Overall, I think that the B and L is a great choice for viewing rock/sediment samples or any other 10X work.  It appears to be well constructed;  I have yet to have any problems.  The casing around the lens is plastic.  The hand lens is held together by a rivet which will not loosen like a screw.  However, I sometimes wonder if it did loosen somehow, then there would be no way for me to tighten it back up....I have yet to have this problem though.
One last plus is the hole to connect the hand lens to a lanyard.  This is very important for me because I use the lens in the field and between use I am often hiking around, so it is handy to have it on command around my neck.
